Cowboys and Cappuccinos goes Instagram

Cowboys and Cappuccinos is now also in Instagram. You can follow me @cappuccinocowboy.

In Instagram I already have some pictures from my trip to Warsaw last weekend. Warsaw has so many amazing coffee shops and restaurants - it is a perfect city for a weekend getaway. Even the weather was perfect +19 C on Saturday! I think I'm in love.

Poetic Cake

This morning I got some take out coffee and pastry from Fazer bakery. Can you guess what is inside the bag?

Aamukahvi ja leivonnaiset haettu aamulla Fazerilta. Jokainen arvannee paketin sisällön? Nautitko sinäkin tänään tortuista kahvin kanssa?

Love, sex, and lots of coffee

"Coffee can be good before, after, or instead of sex."
Anonymous coffee drinker

The Le Méridien Hotels & Resorts commissioned a survey on global coffee and travel habits earlier this year. The survey found that coffee surpasses sex as the ideal wake-up call according to more than half (53%) of the global respondents. The study also established that coffee drinkers are addicted to this morning ritual as 54% of respondents make their morning brew right at home and 78% would rather give up alcohol, social media or sex with their spouse for a year rather than forfeit coffee. I guess this purely hypothetical question forced people to choose one over the other. Luckily in real life we don’t have to give up other parts of life for coffee but we can have both – coffee and sex with the spouse. The study is based on a survey of 7455 coffee drinkers from 6 different destinations: the United States, Dubai, China, France, German, and India. A summary of the study is available on Le Méridien’s website.

What was left for less attention in media was that the study also showed that coffee continues to be an increasingly important part of the travel experience. While travel usually provides a break from the daily routine, the survey shows that coffee also takes its place on-the-go, on average, people drink more coffee when they are away from home. Coffee traditions and flavours from around the world are so distinct that respondents also told they have experienced nostalgia for a destination due to the cup of coffee they enjoyed while traveling. Now this is a statement I can relate strongly, for a coffee lover like me coffee moments are highlights of travelling - I travel for coffee experiences.

Share your thoughts and tell me: how much do you love coffee? Would you give up sex, social media or alcohol for coffee in the morning? Anyone else a coffee tourist? How far have you traveled for a perfect cup of coffee?

The symbol of love - heart - is often seen on the surface of coffee drinks.

Autumn colors

Today I have enjoyed the sunny weather and autumn colors - nature can be so beautiful this time of the year! After taking a long walk in the fresh air I decided to practice my latte making skills a little. Here you can see the result. I was quite happy with it - the latte and chocolate cookies were yummy!

Happy International Coffee Day Sept 29!

More than 1 billion people start their day by drinking a cup of coffee. This makes coffee the most popular drink in the world after water. *

I am starting the International Coffee Day by drinking self-made cortados at home. How about you? What is on your coffee menu today?

Tänään vietetään kansainvälistä kahvipäivää. Minä tein sen kunniaksi heti aamusta cortadot. Mitä sinulla on kahvikupissasi tänään?

Coffee as part of the food pie chart

Drinking coffee seems to have many health benefits such as preventing cardiovascular diseases, Parkinson’s disease and type 2 diabetes.  New research results support these coffee benefits. Now a professor in Finland says coffee should be added as part of the food pie chart. Cowboys & Cappuccinos highly supports this idea! Inspired by the news here is the food pie chart followed in blog.

Finland's Best Bakery

Photo: JIM TV
In a novel TV format Finland's Best Bakery starting on JIM channel on Spring 2014 the best bakery is being searched. 18 bakeries will be participating and the bakers are challenged in different tasks. At the end one of bakeries will win the title Finland’s Best bakery. The program is based on international TV format “Britain’s Best Bakery”.

I am very much looking forward to this program since in addition to coffee, I am always looking for delicious quality cakes as well.  Has anyone of you seen the original British version? Do you know what other countries have had this TV format?

Suomeksi JIM TV:n sivuilta:

Uudessa Jimillä keväällä 2014 nähtävässä sarjassa Suomen paras leipomo tutustutaan 18 leipomoon, niiden historiaan sekä ihmisiin leipien, leivonnaisten ja kakkujen takana.  Leipomot eri puolilta Suomea suorittavat myös tuomarien antamia tehtäviä, joissa leipurit pääsevät soveltamaan osaamistaan ja luovuuttaan. Lopuksi yksi leipomo voittaa Suomen paras leipomo -tittelin. Ohjelman tuomareina toimivat ravintoloitsija Hans Välimäki ja sokerileipuri Jenni Höijer.

Trendy coffee table: wooden pallets

Wooden Euro pallets seem to be at the moment the hot decoration piece for the trendy cafes. These wooden pallets traditionally used for product transport and storage are now turned in to furniture. Basically you can easily make a piece of furniture by using these wooden pallets. Either used or new wooden pallets can be used. The used ones might be too damaged and generally I think the ones used for furniture are bought for this use. Anyway, the pallets are not expensive to buy. Of course you can also find ready-made furniture made from these pallets in design interior shops.

The first time I saw a table made from wooden euro pallets was on the pages of an interior design magazine. I cannot remember anymore which magazine it was. On that moment it hit me: I want a table like that! I am not a handyman myself but with the help of my father I got the coffee table of my dreams! Since then I have seen these wooden pallets made into furniture in many other magazines, shops and now also in cafes in Finland and abroad. In my opinion these coffee tables made from wooden pallets on the one hand look very fresh and contemporary and on the other hand there is a hint of romanticism.

Here is my coffee/TV table

The coffee bar desk made from wooden pallets in Kaffecentralen in Helsinki, Finland

Wooden pallets are also the key element of the interior desing in one of the trendiest places in Vienna to drink coffee, CaffeCouture.

Have you noticed this trend and what do you think about it? Is the wooden pallet table a smart piece of furniture or do think its place is in the warehouse?

- Cowboys & Cappuccinos -

Birthday coffee and cake

The birthday of the blog Cowboys and Cappuccinos! It starts here! The blog takes you to a voyage to the world of coffee and cafes. While travelling sitting in cafes and enjoying a good cup of cappuccino are a passion for the author. The blog will have introductions to the cafes visited during the years, photos of the coffee and cakes eaten while there, thoughts about coffee and stories from the trip. Occasionally the coffee maker and kitchen at home might be used.  Welcome to the voyage!

Cowboys and Cappucinos blogin syntymäpäivä!
